A WORD TO PUPILS IN DISTRICT SCHOOLS
The earning of a Preliminary Certificate is the first step toward a High School education. Often this is the hardest step. Students in the district schools are handicapped in many ways, among which are the lack of time for proper recitation periods and teachers inexperienced in Regents work. When students have completed the seventh grade, much time can be saved and better results obtained by their spending a year in our Pre-Academic Department where the teacher has time to devote to Regents work. This Department is in charge of a teacher with several years' experience in this particular work. They will then enter the High School with a proper groundwork and more confidence. We urge parents to investigate the matter for we feel that the few dollars spent will bring greater returns than at any other time in the school life of the pupil.

STUDY HOURS
It is of the utmost importance that High School students have regular study hours outside of school, free from interruption. At least two and one-half hours is necessary for all pupils in High School. Particularly would we call attention of parents of children just entering High School, or of those who have some work to do at night or in the morning, to this matter. Parents must see to it that their children make attending High School their "business." A larger portion of failures come from not recognizing the necessity of regular hours for study at home. Outside interested, social distractions, late hours, or lack of earnestness will result in failure. Parents whose children are not studying conscientiously and regularly at home must not expect good results. Parents are cordially invited to consult with the principal concerning such matters.
DUTIES OF PUPILS
Every pupil is expected to be constant and regular in attendance, to conform to the regulations of the school, to obey promptly all directions of the teachers, to observe good order and propiety of deportment, and to be diligent in study and respectful to teachers. At the opening of school, pupils will take seats assigned by the teacher. Pupils of a department shall not be allowed in any other department of the school unless they have permission from some teacher of the school.
